Order types

Choose the right MT5 order for your entry plan and manage risk after the position opens.

Market and pending orders

Market orders seek immediate execution at an available price. Buy Limit and Sell Limit orders seek a better entry price. Buy Stop and Sell Stop orders activate after price reaches a trigger. MT5 also supports stop-limit orders where enabled for the instrument.

Stop loss and take profit

A stop loss defines an exit trigger to limit a losing trade; a take profit defines an exit target. Neither removes market risk. A triggered stop may fill at a different price during volatility or a gap. Check minimum stop distances in the symbol specification.

Trailing stops and account mode

MT5 desktop trailing stops require the terminal to remain running and connected. Hedging and netting determine how multiple trades in one symbol are recorded; confirm your account mode. Do not assume OCO is a native order type on every Mercato account.

Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
