Leverage & margin

Leverage reduces the margin needed to open a position, but increases exposure relative to your account balance.

Maximum leverage is not a target

Mercato advertises leverage up to 1:500. Available leverage and required margin depend on the account and instrument. Check the symbol specifications and account terms rather than assuming every position uses the maximum.

Estimate required margin

For a simple EUR/USD position in a USD account, approximate margin is lots × 100,000 × EUR/USD price ÷ leverage. For example, at 1.1000 and 1:100, one standard lot requires approximately $1,100. Other instruments and margin modes use different calculations.

Protect free margin

Monitor equity, used margin and free margin in MT5. A losing position reduces equity even if its opening margin was small. Confirm margin-call and stop-out levels in your agreement; do not rely on a stop loss being filled at an exact price during a gap.

Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
