1. Commitment

Mercato Brokers is committed to preventing money laundering, terrorism financing, proliferation financing and all forms of financial crime, and complies with the Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2002 of Mauritius, the United Nations (Financial Prohibitions, Arms Embargo and Travel Ban) Sanctions Act 2019, and the FSC AML/CFT Handbook, as amended from time to time.

2. Customer Due Diligence

All applicants undergo identity verification (government-issued photo ID), verification of residential address (utility bill, bank statement or equivalent issued within the last three months), and screening against consolidated sanctions lists, adverse-media sources and politically-exposed-person (PEP) databases.

3. Enhanced Due Diligence

Enhanced due diligence is applied to higher-risk clients, including PEPs, clients from higher-risk jurisdictions, and clients presenting complex ownership structures. Enhanced measures include source-of-funds and source-of-wealth verification and senior-management approval to onboard or continue the relationship.

4. Ongoing Monitoring

Transactions and account activity are monitored on an ongoing basis for unusual patterns, structuring, third-party funding, and inconsistency with the client's stated profile. Suspicious activity is reported to the Financial Intelligence Unit as required by law.

5. Sanctions

Mercato Brokers does not deal with individuals or entities on the UN, EU, OFAC, HM Treasury or Mauritian sanctions lists, or with any counterparty involved in prohibited activities.

6. Payment Rules

Deposits and withdrawals must originate from and be returned to accounts in the client's own name. Third-party payments are not accepted.

7. Training

All staff undergo AML/CFT training on induction and at least annually thereafter. Additional training is provided when regulations or internal procedures change.

8. Governance

A Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and a Deputy MLRO are appointed and approved by the Board. The AML programme is subject to independent review at least annually.

9. Record-Keeping

Client identification records, transaction records and internal suspicious-activity reports are retained for a minimum of seven (7) years after the end of the business relationship or the completion of the transaction, whichever is later.
